It only took me three years…

Some of you may remember this post:

About the time I did that, I was dealing with some major health issues.  Luckily I recovered from all of that and that little kit was a great way to get my mind off my problems and pain.  I enjoyed working on it so much that I ended up ordering two more kits.  I got right to work on the next one when it arrived…and then I kind of hit a wall with it.  I’d managed to assemble all of the furniture and quite a bit of the papercrafted items, but I never totally finished and it still needed the wiring.  It sat on my bookshelf alongside the other one for quite some time.  And then this weekend, I finally finished it!  I don’t know what triggered it, but I just decided it needed completion.

A couple of close ups:

One of the nice things about these kits is you can customize them if you like.  The original color of the piano was white, but I decided I wanted it to be brown instead and I’m really glad I did.  I think it gives a nice contrast in the colors.  I did a few things a little different from the kit, but for the most part, I stuck with the original design.

The most difficult part in both of the kits has been connecting the wiring so the lights work.  It’s really NOT that complicated.  The issue is that they really didn’t strip enough of the wire to make good connections.  And the wires on the lights are SUPER fine, so trying to strip more is next to impossible.  I have another of these kits to assemble and I think I’m going to experiment with ways to correct that issue.

Have you tried any of these kits?  I’d love to see your finished rooms!  If you are interested in trying one of these, there is a nice selection of them available on Amazon.  Just look under “DIY Miniature Dollhouse Kit”.  I will warn you, some of them are drop shipped from China, so it may take a few weeks to get your kit.  Also–there are tons of videos on YouTube showing how these are assembled, so if you get stumped, or just need inspiration, just head over there, using the same search as I suggested for Amazon.  (WARNING: That’s how I got sucked into buying my first one.)  Enjoy! 😉
