I got Samantha for Christmas in 1990-yeah, a long time ago! She was a Christmas present from my husband and even after all of these years, I still love her. She’s a Pleasant Company/pre-Felicity doll meaning her body is more of a muslin color instead of the flesh tone. In other words-her arms and legs don’t match her body color! She has been retired from modeling for the blog and is traveling with Grandmary, Uncle Gard and Aunt Cornelia, visiting relatives in England. You will see her in some of my old posts, but she doesn’t appear in many of my new ones.
Pleasant Company had only been in business for a couple of years when I saw one of their catalogs while we were on a day trip to NY. I was hooked instantly and sent for my own catalog. Thank heavens I have a husband who pays attention (sometimes). At that time they only sold Samantha, Molly and Kirsten, I don’t know why, but I just fell in love with Samantha. I bought the sewing patterns they had for her and a friend of mine made me a couple of outfits (this was before I got back in to sewing and didn’t have a lot of time either).

I took a long break from buying anything American Girl but in the summer of 2014 I got the bug again. I wanted another doll after having just Samantha all those years, and I really wanted a doll that kind of looked like me and totally different from Samantha. After looking at every doll they had, I decided Rebecca most closely fit that bill. With her brown wavy hair and hazel eyes, she is my coloring exactly. I think she is so pretty and while I think that hair could be frustrating for some people to deal with, I know just how to handle it 😉 I find it kind of funny that she is from the era closest to Samantha, it was fate!

Favorite singer/band: Adele

I also got Kit in the summer of 2014 from an Ebay auction. I think she is just the cutest darned thing with her big blue eyes and her bouncy blond hair. I have always thought that Kit was adorable and I had some extra cash from selling some stuff on Ebay, so I started looking for one in the price range I wanted to pay. It took me about two weeks but I found one that I really liked, I wanted one that didn’t have heavy freckles and with slightly longer hair. I got her on Ebay from a lady in Florida who regularly sells toys in July 2014, I was so excited when she came, she was perfect! She was missing her meet outfit but that didn’t bother me, Kit is such a tomboy she doesn’t want to wear a skirt most of the time anyhow. My absolute favorite thing about Kit is her easy care hair, I would highly recommend her for younger girls because it is so simple to style. She looks a lot like one of my nieces did when she was about that age, one of these days I’ll share a picture. (she will probably kill me if she finds out!!!) I love all of my dolls, but I really have to say that Kit is probably my favorite, she looks good in just about any outfit I’ve put her in and I love her spunky personality in the books.

Marie Grace was definitely an impulse purchase for me, but I don’t regret it. I think she is one of the prettiest dolls they’ve ever done, her features are so delicate. I hope they reuse her face mold sometime in the future because I would love to see what she looks like with different colored eyes and hair. I have to admit that when I first saw Marie-Grace in a catalog, I didn’t like her all that much. It wasn’t until I saw photos of her on someone else’s blog that I decided I would like to have her, the AG photos didn’t do her justice. I didn’t waste much time because it was only a couple of weeks before she was archived! I love that her face mold is unique and her blue eyes are such a different color. When I ordered her I told my husband that I figured she was worth taking a chance on, if I didn’t like her I could always sell her on Ebay. No chance of that happening, I think she is just adorable and she now has a permanent home here! She came to live with us in August 2014. I did take her braids down and straightened them using the hot water method, so glad I did because she has gorgeous hair!

I picked up Cassandra off Ebay shortly after a trip to the American Girl store in Columbus, Ohio. I had several dolls in mind for the next one in my collection but I wanted to see them in person first. After I saw MAG #40 in the case, it was all over, I knew that was the doll for me. I won her in the last seconds of the auction, beating out the other person by only $1, it was meant to be! My favorite thing about her is her hair, it is just the perfect length to leave down without looking messy, it has so much body to it.

Hobbies/Interests: I love anything to do with science, and Samantha left me her camera when she headed to England so I’m getting in to photography and scrapbooking. I play the flute too.
Abby (a renamed/customized Saige Copeland doll)
I’d wanted Saige for a while, and finally picked her up on Ebay. She was in terrific condition, except for her hair–can you say rats nest? After a lot of hard work, I finally gave up on trying to fix it and decided to rewig her, using the wig from a #64 I had left when I customized Fiona. I think she is so unique now with her black hair and her turquoise blue eyes, just a gorgeous doll. I was never wild about her name though, and after I acquired an Isabelle doll as well, I renamed them both and made them sisters!
Name: Abigail Genevieve Davis–goes by Abby

Zara (a renamed Isabelle Palmer Doll)
I picked up Isabelle when she was on the Today Show’s “Jill’s Steals and Deals”. I had been debating on her, and at that price, I couldn’t say no! I wasn’t all that wild about her story or her name, but I thought she would make a perfect sister for my renamed Saige and that was that! If you haven’t figured it out just yet, she’s named after Zara Phillips, Queen Elizabeth’s granddaughter. I just love her eyes, for some reason that shade of hazel goes exceptionally well with her blonde hair.

Alya is a custom doll, a combination of a MyAG #30 and Caroline’s eyes. I had been wanting a doll with the Jess mold but with lighter colored eyes instead of brown. I was so excited when I found a seller that had her, she was just what I was looking for. I’m always amazed when I look at her and Cassandra side by side, it still impresses me how much a different eye color on the same mold can completely change the way a doll looks.
Name: Alya Rose Norton
Birthday: March 9

Favorite Movie: The Sound of Music-I love old musicals!

Shivan is my proof that once in a while you really can “get what you want!” (insert Rolling Stones music here) I’ve been harping about wanting a medium skinned doll, made from the Sonali mold for quite a while. I never, ever thought it would happen. When Truly Me was introduced in May of 2015, I darned near fainted, there she was! She is the first doll I’ve ever ordered within the first weeks of a release (usually it’s months or sometimes even years!) and I’m not sorry I did. Her story is that her parents are of Indian descent and they came to the US to go to college, deciding to stay. She has a younger brother (who she calls “the pest”), is from Pittsburgh and somewhere down the road, this girl is going to get her first sari because her mom’s cousin is getting married and they have to travel to England for the wedding. I am fascinated by Hindu culture, someday I hope to get to go to a Hindu wedding myself!

I’ve had AG 55 on my radar for quite some time, I had seriously looked at her when I bought Rebecca, but decided since I was looking for a “mini-me”, Rebecca’s hair color and style was much more like mine, plus I didn’t have freckles. I still thought she was a cute doll though, and I looked at her more times than I even care to admit. One day while doing my usual Ebay check, I came across a brand new one without clothes that was extremely reasonably priced. After a bit of debating, I decided to go for it. Once she arrived, I was thrilled, she’s even prettier in person, and I have no regrets on getting her. Unfortunately I am currently out of space for any more permanent doll bedroom setups, so I decided to make her a neighbor girl, her parents are going through a divorce and she and her mom are living with her grandfather. You’ll see her a lot at the doll house! I had a really hard time deciding on a name for her, nothing seemed to hit me until I realized she reminded me of a character on the British TV show “Doc Martin”—Louisa was perfect for her.

Fiona is a custom AG doll made from a Truly Me #64 and a custom made wig. I had an idea for a doll like this for a while and finally decided to take the plunge. It was an interesting experience, the hardest part being the wig removal, but it was definitely worth it because I ended up with a doll that was exactly what I wanted—and I did it!

I’d always liked Kanani, but when she came out, I didn’t really have American Girl on my radar, so I missed out on her. By the time I did want her, secondary market prices had gotten ridiculous. One day while surfing Ebay, I came across a fantastic package deal for her and some of her accessories, and I knew she had to join the girls.
My Kanani is Fiona’s cousin, their grandmothers are sisters. They don’t get to see each other in person very often, but thanks to modern technology, they Skype, text and e-mail regularly. Kanani has recently moved in with Fiona’s family so that she can go to school at Kennedy with the rest of the gang.

Favorite TV Show: The Simpsons
Favorite singer/band: Bruno Mars

Sophia is a renamed Lea Clarke doll. I liked Lea, but I was hesitant to buy her because she looked so much like Rebecca. In fact, I had pretty much written her off until I saw some pictures of her and Rebecca together on other blogs. I decided she would make a wonderful sister for my Rebecca, and I was so right! I think she is one of the prettiest dolls American Girl has made so far, her unique hair and eye color sets her apart from all of their other dolls. I picked her name for two reasons—as a reminder of a character in the Rebecca books (her sister Sophie) and because she has the same coloring as Sofia Vergara, one of my favorite actresses.
Name: Sophia Leanne Rubin
Birthday: February 2
Favorite Food: chocolate chip cookies
Favorite Movie: The King’s Speech
Favorite TV Show: The Blacklist
Favorite singer/band: Bruno Mars

Lanie joined the gang here in July of 2016. I always liked Lanie, but I’ll be honest, buying a used one made me nervous because of her hair. You can imagine my surprise when I found a used Lanie on Craigslist that was in pristine condition! I was thrilled to get her and have her join the group. I plan on keeping most of Lanie’s story intact, the only change is her family has moved here from Massachusetts because her dad took a new teaching position at a local university.

Jenny is a renamed Saige doll that I got when I decided to re-wig Abby. She was in pristine condition when she arrived as she had belonged to an adult collector who was downsizing her collection. The Saige doll is by far my favorite girl of the year, and I was super excited to get one in perfect shape. I did change her name because I was never wild about the name Saige, and she looks a lot like a character on Coronation Street.

The Pittsburgh Gang!
The girls from the Pittsburgh area all belong to Evil Twin. Zoee Arden-Parker (a renamed Kit) was originally born in England, but her family moved here not too long ago because her dad works for the British Embassy in Washington DC. Her cousin, Nancy Davis (a renamed Marie-Grace) has lived in Pittsburgh her whole life, and is also a 2nd cousin to Zara and Abby Davis through their dads. Both Nancy and Zoee are only children, but they enjoy spending time together as well as visiting their friends and relatives here.
Raynia, Felicity and Trudy Merriman Peabody are sisters, and descendants of the original Felicity Merriman. Trudy is the oldest (as well as the oldest of all of the girls), followed by Raynia and last (but certainly not least!) Felicity. Felicity was adopted by the Peabody family was she was only a few days old. Their mom is of Portuguese descent, she was the first generation of her family to be born in the USA and still has many relatives in Portugal. The girls all hope to get to go there someday to visit their extended family and see where their grandma and grandpa live, owning and operating a large vineyard that supplies grapes to a winery there.
The girls all have varied interests: Zoee is into horses and history, Nancy loves softball and crafts, Trudy is into fashion, acting and cooking, Raynia is a soccer player and Felicity is into swimming, reading and would love to have her own horse. Just like the girls here, they are all into the typical “tween” kinds of things!
