Another new Etsy shop review! SewLikeBetty

I’m always on the look out for new Etsy shops to support and doll clothing…well, it is a bit of a problem for me as I tend to buy as much of it as I do clothing for myself. 😉   I don’t even remember what I was looking for when I came across this shop, but I thought the items looked well made and the prices were reasonable, so I decided to give it a shot.  Since it was a “free shipping with $35 purchase” deal, I selected three items that I had in my favorites.  A cute pair of bib overalls with a shirt and two dresses.

I have numerous pairs of bib overalls in my doll collection, I personally love them myself.  However, they are a pain in the neck when it comes time to use the bathroom so I’ve quit bothering with them for me to wear.  Instead I overindulge my love of them with my doll collection!  This set caught my attention immediately and once I put them on Wendy, I was even more impressed.  Well made, heck, she even lined the pockets with contrasting fabric!  The white shirt came with them too.  The attention to detail on these is fantastic.

This dress is just too cute, I think it’s the perfect spring/summer style and colors!

The piping trim on this is very well done.  I know I wouldn’t have the patience!!

The back closes with Velcro, it’s the type that isn’t quite so sticky.  I wish everyone would go to using this, including the big name doll clothing companies! It’s so much easier to work with and closes every bit as well.

And last, but not least, the dress that caught my attention and made me look at this shop even closer!

This is such a cute dress…and these sleeves, oh my word!!  As someone who sews, let me just tell you, a sleeve like this is not an easy thing to do on a human sized garment, but to do it in miniature, wow!  My hat is off to her, I’m impressed.

Some more views:

To say I was pleased with my purchase is putting it mildly.  All of the items I bought were well made, finished on the inside so they would withstand many changes of clothing.  Prices ranged from $14 to $25 for the items I purchased which I thought was very reasonable, especially given the quality.  Lightning fast shipping as well, although it might take a little longer right now given the circumstances.  I would definitely buy from this Etsy seller again!!

If you’d like to check this store out, here you go!

After we were done with the photo shoot, I told the girls they could have a snack from the bakery cart…

Review of Sledding Adventures Set

American Girl ran a decent sale in January and I picked up several things.  This set was one I was not sure about, but it seemed like a good time to pick it up and get it super cheap!  Regularly $24, it was marked down to $6, so why not?!

It’s not a big set, just the sled, mittens and a headband.

The headband and gloves are cute, both good items to have in cold weather!  I’m not sure why they didn’t make these match though???

The sled is well done, I like the detail on it.  It has a nice slick bottom, I think it would actually work on real snow if you tried!

However, it seems a little bit on the small side to me.  What do you think?  I’m wondering if it would fit a Wellie Wishers doll better.

A cute set and I think worth taking a chance on at $6.  Another one not worth the full price in my opinion though.

Review of Wellie Wishers Merry Stocking Set

Because of several purchases I made in December, I had a bunch of rewards certificates coming in the new year.  It’s always fun trying to figure out how to use them!  In February I had a large one (the max of $50) and I decided to get the most out of the shipping fee I was going to be paying anyhow.  I got Joss and a few things that were on sale in that order, one of which was the Wellie Wishers Merry Stocking Set.  I thought this was a cute set, but I didn’t feel like paying $20 for it.  I don’t remember what the sale price was on it, but by the time my rewards certificate was applied to my order, it ended up costing me…$3.69.  I love a good bargain!

Here’s everything out of the box:

The different pieces are cute.  I like the little tree, I will remove that tag.  I still haven’t figured out the point of these on small items like this, anyone else???  Obviously you aren’t going to leave it on.  (insert facepalm here)

The little box is very well done, but it is empty.  I’m trying to think of something I could put in it, it’s not very big.  Maybe a doll pen and pencil set?  Faux candy?  Open to ideas!

A nice big holiday lollipop!  I wonder what flavor this would be?  Peppermint?  Or cherry/vanilla?  I would choose the second, although I like both.  I like that it has a handle on it so a doll can hold it, although I didn’t try it out.  Has anyone else noticed that sometimes these handles don’t work as well as you might think????

The stocking is really cute, but it does have a big “W” embroidered on it.  I don’t know why they felt they had to do that, I honestly think that would be a deterrent as far as purchasing it.  I bought it anyways, and it worked out well that I renamed my Joss doll Wendy, so guess who gets this stocking?  I like the fleece trim on it and the embroidery is nice.  It’s different from other small stockings I’ve seen too.

In a nutshell, I don’t think this set was worth the original $20 price tag.  But if you could get it on sale, that made it much better.  Cute pieces and a nice addition to a holiday collection.  It was definitely worth what I paid for it!  If I remember correctly, the original sale price before my coupon was $6, and I definitely think it was worth that price.  I’m thinking it is comparable to a My Life As set, and those run about $8, and this is slightly higher in quality and detail, so the sale price is a bargain.  It will be interesting to see if this pops up in a future AG clearance sale again, I’ve given up trying to figure out what they are doing with those, you never know what is going to show up!
