My Life As Art Supply Play Set

My Life As is the “little engine that could”.  They started out with some stuff that was just okay, quality was lacking, sizing was off.  Then it got better and better and now they are a force to be seriously reckoned with.  Combine the improvements in quality with a still very affordable price tag and I think they could easily give Our Generation and American Girl some serious competition.  I’m so happy to see that they keep coming out with more and more clever items and sets too.

On a recent visit to Walmart, I discovered this very cute little set:

An art supply play set!  It jumped into my shopping cart so quickly it would make your head spin!

Once I took the packaging off, I could see better all the things that were in it.  The container is really cute, clear plastic with a hinged lid.  It snaps closed too.

Once I got everything out, I discovered it had a notepad, several “sketches” and a faux canvas (it’s plastic).

It also had paint tubes (no paint for real), brushes and an artist’s palette.

Also some colored pencils and markers!  A cute pair of scissors which actually move and a bottle of glue.

No crafting set would be complete without the scourge of the crafting world…

Glitter!!!!  (Insert screams here.)  Fortunately these are tightly sealed, so no one should be able to escape.  I thought these would work for either the art world, or even in a baking situation as a prop.

I love that so many of the pieces have handles on them to make it easier to have your doll hold them!

Everything fits inside the container too.

This is definitely one of my favorite sets from My Life As and I give it an A+++.  At under $8, it’s a great little gift or stocking stuffer idea!

When Bad Things Happen To Good Dolls–bet you didn’t think you’d ever see this again!!

If you are a regular reader of this blog, you have seen these posts in the past.  Then I ran out of material due to a lot of people just giving up on Ebay.  Recently a friend pointed me in the direction of a hilarious Facebook group called “Weird Secondhand Finds That Just Need To Be Shared”.  Let me just tell you, I’ve seen some weird stuff in my travels, but some of what has been posted on there takes the cake!  I ended up sharing the site with several friends and family who found it just as amusing as I did.  I finally had to start limiting my time spent on there because it not only is a difficult place to read posts at because it is massively busy, but I found myself laughing so hard at times, I’d have trouble breathing.  In the process, I came across some really funny doll related posts–and as you know, I just couldn’t resist sharing them!

Presenting a new installment of When Bad Things Happen To Good Dolls!!!!  (Insert trumpet fanfare…here!)

So, this first one was on Ebay.  It’s not horrible, but there is one question that I can’t help but ask…

Why is she only wearing one shoe????  (and where is Kit, what have you done with her?!?!?!)

The next one is not my kind of thing, but I can see where someone would think it was pretty cool.  You’d have to be a really BIG fan to do this to two AG dolls I guess.  (I’m assuming this is Harley Quinn and the Joker?  Correct me if I’m wrong.)

Okay folks…we are just getting warmed up here.  We have two American Girl dolls for sale…is this a nude rave???  At least they look enthusiastic.  Especially since it looks like they lost the hairbrush. “Hands In The Air Like We Just Don’t Care!!!”  (This was an Ebay listing)

This one…a perfect example of automated manufacturing gone horribly amok…

Ooops.  Quality control fail.

Okay folks…here’s probably one of the strangest things I’ve seen…well…almost the strangest.  Wait till you get to the last post.  That’s the strangest.

Okay…we’re to the end, so this is where I warn you to be sure you are sitting, any beverage you are drinking is set down and what you might have sipped is swallowed…

Okay, you can scream now!  Oh wait, Barbie on the left looks like she is doing it for you!!!!!  This. Is. Just. Scary.  First off, who would do this to a Barbie doll, I mean, pulling her head off isn’t all that difficult, but cutting the poor girl’s hands off to make jewelry is just atrocious.  But then my other question is–who would actually wear this??

I wish I could say no dolls were harmed in the creation of these items, but we know otherwise.

Hope you enjoyed this installment!  Not sure when I’ll have another, it took me a while to accumulate enough photos for this post, but I’m always on the lookout.

Review of Blaire’s Restaurant Accessories

When this set was introduced, I immediately wanted it.  I thought it would work well whenever we are using the bakery setup and it had a lot of cute pieces to it.  It retails for $30 but I had a $10 off rewards coupon, so I only paid $20 for it.  I think it’s definitely worth that!

The menu board is the only thing I’m disappointed in.  And here’s why.  The menu items that are changeable are stickers.  I don’t think that they would hold up over time if they were repeatedly switched back and forth.  I’m debating on what to do should I decide to use them.  We’ll see.

The reverse side is very pretty too.

The items included for the waitress are really super cute.  You get an apron, an order pad, a bill holder and a faux pen.  Oh…and money!  I won’t take the money out of the bag unless I get some genius idea for it.  I have some stashed from other sets as well.

I love that there are pockets in the check holder!

And if you look very closely, you can see that it says “American Girl” on the faux pen!

The food items in this set are very well done.  You get two glasses of water, complete with lemon slices and two crème brulee’s.

The water carafe is well done too, probably my favorite piece of the set.  It’s definitely recycled from a Grace Thomas set, but that’s okay.  It’s fine to recycle better pieces.

The tray is large and holds everything.  It is made out of plastic.  At this price, I’m not going to complain a lot about it not being metal.

I like this entire set and think it’s a great piece to add to any collection.  I may use it with my Journey Girls table and chairs for a “Kit’s Birthday” kind of set up!
