It only took me three years…

Some of you may remember this post:

About the time I did that, I was dealing with some major health issues.  Luckily I recovered from all of that and that little kit was a great way to get my mind off my problems and pain.  I enjoyed working on it so much that I ended up ordering two more kits.  I got right to work on the next one when it arrived…and then I kind of hit a wall with it.  I’d managed to assemble all of the furniture and quite a bit of the papercrafted items, but I never totally finished and it still needed the wiring.  It sat on my bookshelf alongside the other one for quite some time.  And then this weekend, I finally finished it!  I don’t know what triggered it, but I just decided it needed completion.

A couple of close ups:

One of the nice things about these kits is you can customize them if you like.  The original color of the piano was white, but I decided I wanted it to be brown instead and I’m really glad I did.  I think it gives a nice contrast in the colors.  I did a few things a little different from the kit, but for the most part, I stuck with the original design.

The most difficult part in both of the kits has been connecting the wiring so the lights work.  It’s really NOT that complicated.  The issue is that they really didn’t strip enough of the wire to make good connections.  And the wires on the lights are SUPER fine, so trying to strip more is next to impossible.  I have another of these kits to assemble and I think I’m going to experiment with ways to correct that issue.

Have you tried any of these kits?  I’d love to see your finished rooms!  If you are interested in trying one of these, there is a nice selection of them available on Amazon.  Just look under “DIY Miniature Dollhouse Kit”.  I will warn you, some of them are drop shipped from China, so it may take a few weeks to get your kit.  Also–there are tons of videos on YouTube showing how these are assembled, so if you get stumped, or just need inspiration, just head over there, using the same search as I suggested for Amazon.  (WARNING: That’s how I got sucked into buying my first one.)  Enjoy! 😉

  1. Looks fantastic!

I see these kits often and think how much fun it would be until I remember every other project I am working on lol

    • I hear you there!!! I want to start that third kit I have, but I also have a house that needs a thorough spring cleaning…and a million other things in the works.

  2. I love watching videos of creators putting these kits together, it’s one of my ways of relaxing actually, and I have wanted one for awhile, it just hasn’t happened yet. This one turned out so cute! I hope you’ll post pictures when you put together the other one too. =)

    • That’s exactly how I got hooked, I was looking at videos for making other miniatures and this popped up in my feed. I will be sure to post it whenever I get it done!

  3. Congratulations! They are gorgeous! i love it and I don’t think I would have the patience to do this. I’d turn the wiring over to hubby who I can hear cursing now. LOL

    • Thanks! One more to go…except I keep looking at them and think “oh, wouldn’t that be cute too?!”

  4. Yours turned out really nice! I have a kit sitting on my shelf staring me in the eye as I type this, haha! I bought it 2 Xmas’s ago and still haven’t done it so don’t feel bad! 🙂

    • LOL! I’ve been watching a few too many of these videos for building them, I need to stop before I’m tempted to buy another!

  5. I’m sorry to hear about your health issues but I’m glad that you’ve recovered from it! 🙏

I just bought a set of the kit today and I can’t wait to start working on it!! ❤️
