Holiday Decorating Day!

Hi guys, Mimi here!  Mom’s been decorating the house a bit, so I decided I wanted to decorate my room too!

Before we start, check out my cool hat!  It even has a real jingle bell!  Mom’s friend Maggie made it for me, I love it.  I feel very festive!

First things first–a stocking.  Except I don’t have a chimney.  Hmmm…where could I hang this?  I know!

Tada!  Captain Jack, don’t you get any ideas about stealing what’s in it! (Does anyone else love Torchwood?)

I have a couple cute wooden signs.  I think I’ll put this one up along the TV.

This one on one side…

And the other on the opposite side.  Looks good!

Next I have this cool lantern, it was a gift from Xyra over at Tea Time With Melody Q.  Mom had a tea light that changes colors for me to put in it.

It looks pretty cool.  It will look cute on the little table where my radio usually sits.

I have this cool pink tree.  I think I know the perfect place for it.

It looks good along side my big nutcracker.

We’ve got Santa Claus too!

I think he’ll look good up on the top of my desk.

And we have to do the Christmas tree!  Mom gave me this really cool silver one, she said it reminds her of one that was in her 1st grade classroom.  She said she thought it was the prettiest tree she’d ever seen.

Check out these cool lights, they look like cactuses!  These were also a gift from Xyra.

I think they look great on.  Now for the rest of the decorations.

Some ornaments on a string that look like giant lights.  They don’t light up though, strictly ornaments.

And a box of Christmas balls.

I have to be very careful with these because they are glass.

Ginger, don’t eat a Christmas ornament!  I don’t want to have to take you to the vet!

There, all done!

Let’s turn out the lights so we can see what it looks like.

I think my room looks awesome now.  I stuck a couple of gifts under the tree for some extra decoration.  I’m curious, do you have a tree in your room?  Mom said when she was in high school she got a little tree for in her room and decorated it every year until she moved out.

Hope you had fun watching me decorate my room!  Blessings to everyone this holiday season!

Doll Sized Finds–amazing what you find at Aldi sometimes!!!

I haven’t done a doll sized finds post in ages, mostly because I haven’t been shopping at thrift stores.  Funny though, I met a friend for breakfast who had recently checked out my blog and I had just been telling her about how cool it is to find things that work for dolls that really aren’t intended to be.  Afterwards I had to run to Aldi to pick up a few things.  And lo and behold, I came across something that I just had to have.  An early Christmas present of sorts, but it’s great because not only can it be used for the dolls, but it’s useful to have in general, and not ridiculously expensive.  Are you ready???

Yep, a jukebox radio!  Now some of you may remember that I found a nice one at a resale shop, but it was strictly a radio.  This one not only has a radio in it, but also a built in CD player, plus the ability to play from an auxiliary device, either with Bluetooth or an external jack!  I actually needed a new player for our living room as ours is not working right, so I killed two birds with one stone, and it looks cool to boot!  It also lights up and the colors change on it as well.

There was another thing that appealed to me though.  I was annoyed with how the one they came out for Maryellen wasn’t really the right size.  The proportions were WAY off, if you’ve ever seen this style of jukebox in person, they are tall.  Here is a photo of a real one with an adult human being beside it (thank heavens for the internet!) so you can see what I mean.

American Girl expected us to be happy with this.  Nope…

Mimi offered to pose beside it so you can see just how perfect it is.

MUCH better.  Now you tell me–$90 for a toy, that can only be used to play something from another device and isn’t even the right scale, or $50 for a fully functioning CD/Radio/Bluetooth device, that sounds pretty darned good (it’s playing as I type) if I don’t say so myself?  No brainer!  So glad I didn’t buy the AG version, much happier with this one.  Now I’ll just have to fight with the girls when they want to use it. 😉  I may have to make a Wurlitzer label for it and replace the one that is on it, but that’s easy enough with a good image manipulation program. (Which all good photographer’s have access to LOL)

Dollhouse and Doll Storage

Last week I unveiled Mimi’s bedroom.  That was certainly a fun project, but not without a lot of work ahead of time.  In case you missed it in my previous post, I decided to put all of the dollhouse stuff in storage for a variety of reasons.  The main one being I hadn’t been using it and it was all getting dusty.  The good thing is that the dollhouse itself was basically a set of shelves I purchased at Home Depot, so I at least had some place to store all of it.  Everything else either went into it’s original box (thank heavens I saved my AG boxes for the larger pieces) or a storage bin.  A trip to Target and later a trip to Dollar General and I finally had enough boxes for everything with a few to spare.

I did leave the kitchen out of containers for easy access, that’s a room I can see me using for other things.

Putting the dollhouse away left me with another problem though…what to do with all of my dolls!  I’d used the dollhouse as a way to display everyone before, and now with it gone, I needed to come up with a new storage solution.  I wanted something that was easy access too since I’ll still be using the dolls in future stories.  Hmmm…

In the meantime, it looked a bit like this:

My first thought was to get stands, but not only was I concerned about everyone not fitting in the space I had, but that would start to add up and I really didn’t want to spend a bunch of money on stands.  I took a break from working on the room and gave it some serious thought.  Then I had an idea pop into my head.

I remembered a tote I had from Thirty One.  I actually have three of these and they do come in handy for different things, but it had been a while since I’d used them.  I decided to test my idea out first.

I was easily able to fit 7 dolls in this with enough space for one more if I arranged them properly.  Plus with more in there, the chances of them falling over was lessened.  It was time to really try this out!

I put all of the siblings in one tote, the rest of the siblings and some of the “only children” in the other tote and the smaller tote was just the right size to hold the 6 girls who lived in the dollhouse (ie. the main characters).  My idea worked great!  In case you are wondering, the two totes with 8 dolls in them are the large utility tote and the one with 6 dolls is the medium utility tote.

I’m pleased with how everything worked out.  I think I should be able to easily find things as I need them and with this set up, keep clutter to a minimum.  Always a battle for anyone who collects anything.
