Looking back on 2017

Hello everybody!  Is everyone excited about all of the new stuff coming out in the next few days?  I did get to watch the video for the big reveal of Luciana Vega, very cool.  I’m anxious to see all of the new items that will be coming out along with her.  And of course, there’s a ton of excitement about the American Boy dolls.  Not sure that I will be picking up anyone at this point, I really do think I’m at the breaking point.  I even have someone to show you guys that I haven’t just yet…but that will be something to look forward to in 2018!!  Haha!!

2017 was a very interesting year.  American Girl had some very interesting new releases, and their competitors really seemed to up their games as well.  Some very interesting items to be purchased from a variety of companies.  It’s been fun seeing all of the fun doll things that have come out over the past year, and I’m hopeful that 2018 is just as exciting.

Of course, there were controversies.  It started with Gabriela as GOTY and how her stuff all seemed to be a last minute effort.  And how could we forget the whole Perma-panty fiasco?!?!?!  I think probably the most valuable lesson learned from all of that is we as a community could make our voices heard–and did we ever!  It worked too, and hopefully Perma-panties will be forever relegated to the “what the heck were we thinking” vault at AG.  You have to admit though, it did spark some interesting discussion.

I’m still a bit concerned over the whole Toys R Us bankruptcy mess.  I’ve been reading about it, not just what has been happening in the US, but also what the chain is doing in the UK, and I’m not quite sure how this is going to turn out.  Fingers crossed that our favorite 18 inch companies will come through it okay and it will be business as usual.

I always look forward to the New Year as a time of hope, change, and positivity.  This year I’m especially focused on that, as I’m working on several interesting projects!  And I think I’m ready to share them with you.

First off–I’m writing a book.  I’ve been knocking this idea around for some time now, and after some discussions with a new found friend, I finally decided to take the leap.  I’ve never taken on a project quite this daunting before, but I am very excited at the direction it’s headed.  Getting started is the hardest part of a project like this, and once I got past that inital “first page”, it went way better than I thought.  With the holiday season I haven’t worked on it quite as much as I would have liked, but now I’m hoping to organize my time better so that I can work on it a bit each day.

I’ve also really embraced my guitar lessons.  So much so, that I’m practicing anywhere from a half hour to an hour a day, sometimes more if I can.  Six weeks into my lessons, I wasn’t so sure, but I have a fantastic teacher who was very encouraging, and understood my frustrations at that point.  I’m so grateful to have met him, he not only is a great teacher, but a fun person who continues to push me and keep me accountable.  If I come out of this as a guitarist who is 1/3 as good as he is, I will be pleased.  However, all this practice does come at a price, and it’s also part of the reason why I’m not blogging as much.

I’ve also started to get back into my photography a bit, beyond what I do on the doll blog.  I’m looking at a totally new direction with that, something far different than what I’ve done in the past.  With social media ever evolving, new ways to incorporate what I do continue to pop up.  Kind of like Forrest Gump and that box of chocolates…”you never know what you’re gonna get!”

Here’s to 2018!!  And now we can all just move past that whole perma-panty thing…hopefully.

Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, Happy Holidays, and all that stuff!!!

Hi guys!!!  Sorry I’ve been a bit absent lately.  Between the holiday season and some other stuff, I just haven’t had the time to do much with the doll blog.  I’ll be honest, it is driving me nuts.  But unfortunately, I’ve been not only suffering from a severe case of writers block, my mind hasn’t been in the right place either.  Rather than post something that doesn’t live up to my usual quality and expectations, I decided it best to just take a bit of a break until I get past it.  I even had posts planned to do for the holiday season, but I just wasn’t feeling it.

Recently I’ve met a person who has been not only a great support, but is just an incredible human being.  I’m still trying to figure out exactly why our paths crossed when they did, but I’m not questioning it.   My conversations with her have been just what I needed to get my butt into gear and jump into another venture that I’ve been contemplating for several months.  It’s still in the very early stages at this point, but once it gets to a certain point, I’ll be sure to share.  It’s not doll related, but it is writing related, and I’m the most excited I’ve been about this idea in a very long time.

Because of this project, I’m not sure that I’m going to be as active with the blog, but I’m not going anywhere either.  Blogging has been a great escape at times when I needed a boost, and I still have so much I want to do here.  It doesn’t help that every time I walk into the “doll room”, there are all those cute faces looking at me, waiting on the next adventure.  Rest assured, there will be more.  It just may not be as often for a little while.

Thank you all for reading my blog.  Without you, it would just be a bunch of pages out there on the internet, taking up space.  Readers make it real, and the interactions I’ve had with many of you, both here and in real life have been invaluable.  I plan on being back right after the New Year with some new posts and fun with the gang.  I am still planning on continuing the book group as scheduled too.

(You had to know I couldn’t write a Christmas post without the Minions now, didn’t you????)

My Life As Holiday Dresses!

I had something else I was going to post this week, but then I came across these My Life As sets and I wanted to be sure and share, just in case you wanted to try and pick some up for the holiday season.  I’ll be honest, I’ve not been a big fan of My Life As clothing, the few items I’ve bought have been poorly made and/or didn’t fit great.  Apparently all of the complaints have been taken to heart though, I’ve read a lot of reviews on other blogs in recent months and it doesn’t seem to be as big of an issue.  At just under $10 a set, I decided to go ahead and take a chance on a couple so I could see for myself.  I was not disappointed.

First I’ll show you the Ivory Lace Dress with headband.  This is a knock off of an AG design, but that’s okay, it’s well done and not even close to as expensive.  And it fits beautifully!  Here’s Sophia modeling it for us.  I paired it with the shoes from Isabelle’s meet outfit.

It was easy to put on and no problems at all closing up the velcro in the back.

A close up of the skirt:

The headband is a stretchy elastic style and fits very well.  I prefer this style over the plastic band ones, these stay in place much better.  Plus–has anyone else noticed that the AG ones are too short????

Next we have Kanani in the Turquoise Sequin Glitter Dress with Headband!  The fit on this one wasn’t quite as good as the first, but not horrible either.  It was a little snug, but not so much that I couldn’t get the velcro to close.  It did make the top part fit a little weird though around the neck.  I paired it with the original Truly Me meet outfit shoes, they were a perfect match!

There were quite a few other holiday style dresses, it was hard to pick favorites.  I just narrowed it down to these two as we have plenty of other dresses in the wardrobe.  It has bee tempting to go back and see what else is still there…

I did get one other outfit though.

They call this the Pink and Blue Casual Outfit.  First, I don’t really think of that as pink, it’s more of a coral color.  And when I looked at it, I saw pajamas.  What do you think?

I suppose it could go either way.  Shivan said it was very comfy.  The pants were a little bit of a struggle to get on, but once on, they fit more like leggings.  The back of the top closes, but it could stand to be cut just a wee bit larger.

The jacket is really cute on.  Still looks like pj’s to me though. 😉

“I don’t know about you Archie, but all of this fashion talk is making me tired!”
