The Beacons Perform!

The big night had arrived and the Beacons were ready to perform their show at the Lighthouse. The girls were very excited, but there was some other excitement thanks to Ryan.

He had ordered t-shirts with the band name on to sell at the show! “Wow, these are awesome!” exclaimed Rebecca. “And only $9.50?” questioned Allie. “My uncle’s band sells their for $25. But they are a little better known than The Beacons I guess. I’ve got to get one!”

The rest of the crowd was starting to show up and it didn’t take long for it to get very full.

“I’m so excited!” Emily told Cassandra.  “I wasn’t sure I’d be allowed to come since it’s way past my bedtime, but mom made an exception.”  “It’s going to be a terrific show,” Cassandra replied.  “I’m glad you could come!”

Some of the gang from Pittsburgh even came to cheer the girls on!

Once everyone got seated, it was time for the band to come on the stage.

“The Lighthouse is proud to present our first act of the season–THE BEACONS!!!”

The girls were met with a round of applause. “Thank you everyone for coming tonight! Welcome to our first official show!” said Louisa.

The girls started out the night with one of their favorite songs-“Hit Me With Your Best Shot” by Pat Benetar.  They have been practicing it a lot and sounded really good.

After a couple of more songs, Marie-Grace surprised everyone by singing “That Don’t Impress Me Much” (Shania Twain).  We knew she liked the song, but we didn’t realize she was so good at singing it too!  She got a huge round of applause.

As you can see, Jenny takes her drumming seriously!

Kit surprised us too when she sang the Willie Nelson classic “On The Road Again”. She knew that it was a favorite song of both mine and Evil Twin’s, so she said she just had to sing it. (I told her one time it was my ring tone for a while before it was replaced by The Monty Python theme!)

They did several more songs: “Back In Baby’s Arms” and “Crazy” by Patsy Cline, “Learn To Fly” by The Foo Fighters, “Mean” by Taylor Swift and “Karma Chameleon” by Culture Club. Everyone was impressed by the variety of songs the girls knew.

Towards the end of the show they played “Middle of Nowhere” by Hot Hot Heat which really showed off Alya’s keyboard and singing skills.

After about an hour it was time to rap it up, so the girls played “Disarm” (Smashing Pumpkins).  It was the perfect ending for the show and it sounded really good.

The crowd gave them a standing ovation!

“Thank you so much for coming!  We couldn’t have done this without all of you!!!”

After the crowd left, the girls posed for some fun pictures without their instruments:

“I think it turned out fantastic!” said Jenny.  The rest of the girls agreed.  “Now we need to start practicing for the next show!”  “NEXT SHOW???” exclaimed Kit, Alya, Louisa and Marie-Grace. (Oh dear…)

  1. Woo hoo! Great set list!

    Go Beacons!

    What no Gin Blossoms?

With all that awesome talent you should add some Cranberries, Bangles, and Go-Gos to the line up. Or maybe Cydi Lauper, P!NK, Muse, and Adele.

Your first gig was great! We’re looking forward to more concerts!

  2. That was fantastic. My favorite was Jenny on the drums. She must be really good to play a Foo Fighters song!
I think this band has what it takes to make it big.

    • At least they didn’t attempt Monkey Wrench!!! Jenny is a big fan of Dave Grohl and Taylor Hawkins though, so she wanted to do at least one of their songs.
