Have you figured out what game the girls were going to play? If you guessed “Pin the Goggles on the Minion”, you guessed right! If you haven’t already figured it out, the girls decided on a Minion theme. 😉
Because we had so many girls, we decided to divide everyone up in 4 groups, 3 groups of 4 and 1 group of 3. Each group had a winner who went on to the final round. Our semi-finalists were:
Abby, Jan, Trudy and Felicity! Each of the girls would get a chance to see who did the best in this round.
First up was Jan:
Not bad, a little high, but not too far off.
Next up was Trudy:
Hers was nice and centered, but a bit too low.
Then it was Abby’s turn:
Oh dear, not even close Abby!
Last was Felicity:
Wow, that is almost perfect!
Wait a second Felicity, did you cheat???
It was time to give out the prizes. Each of the semi-finalists got a Minion ball.
Felicity won the grand prize, what do you think it is?
Oh cool, a Stuart figure! Trudy even admitted it was pretty neat (which is a big deal, she’s the oldest of the whole group and hard to impress!)
The girls said they had a lot of fun with this game, now it was time for presents! Come back soon to see what goodies Cassandra got.
If you are interested in the “Pin the Goggles” game, I found it online, it can be printed for a full size game for humans! I just scaled it down some for the dolls. You can find it here, it’s a free download!
When Alya came back from Italy in August, she said she had an important question to ask me. She explained that her cousin Cassandra had never had a big birthday party, that hers were always just her immediate family, no friends or anyone else. She wondered if it would be possible to throw a party for her here at the house…after a bit of thought, I said sure! I told her that she would have to do the organization and I would help her out. She did a very good job of getting the other girls to help her out too, and up until the big day, they managed to keep it a surprise.
Cassandra’s birthday is September 30th, but that fell right in the middle of the week this year, so we decided it would be easier to have it on the weekend before. It worked out great, Cassandra tried out for cheerleading this year and made the squad and they were supposed to have a meeting on Saturday. Then we hit a snag. What would a great plan be without a hitch though?!?!?! The meeting was cancelled and Alya started to panic. “How are we going to do this?!?!” Finally one of the girls came up with an idea, tell Cassandra that there was going to be a surprise for her birthday anyhow and make her stay in her room until a designated time. That would give them enough time to get things set up. And no way in the world would she figure out just how big of a surprise it was going to be.
At 4:00 PM Cassandra was allowed to come out and see:
“Wow guys! Everything looks awesome!”
As the girls finished getting chairs set up, Cassandra was told to go look at the sign on the door:
Cassandra was giggling at the sign when all of a sudden the doorbell rang. “Who could that be, maybe UPS?”
When she opened the door, she was surprised to see Louisa with gifts in hand.
“HAPPY BIRTHDAY CASS!” yelled Louisa. “My gosh, I didn’t think anyone else was coming to the party, I thought it was just the girls that lived here. So glad that you are here!” replied Cass.
She barely had the door shut when the doorbell rang again.
Standing there looking at her were Zara and Abby. “Happy Birthday Cassandra!”
At this point Cassandra didn’t know quite what to think, and then the doorbell rang again!
“Oh my gosh, JAN!!!!” “Happy birthday friend!” replied Jan. “I bet you weren’t expecting to see me!”
She directed everyone to where the tables were when the doorbell rang again. “Who in the world could that be, all of my friends from school are here.” When she opened the door, she almost fainted.
You can imagine just how surprised she was when she saw the whole gang from Pittsburgh here! “Happy Birthday Cassandra–Surprise!!!!” they all shouted. “Oh my word,” responded Cassandra, “it’s so good to see all of you. Come in!”
Once Cassandra got over her shock, everyone got seated and ready for the festivities. The girls had a great time chatting too!
Look at all of those presents!!!
Once everyone was settled, Alya thanked everyone for coming and that the first thing they would be doing would be playing a game! Anyone have any ideas as to what that was?? Stop by Tuesday to see the game. 🙂
I don’t usually do toy reviews or posts outside of doll stuff. Probably because lately, I don’t buy many toys besides doll stuff. But recently I purchased something so cute, I’m going to make an exception.
Cassandra kept telling me just how good the Minion movie was. I really did want to see it, but I didn’t want to go by myself. Finally my husband said he’d make me a deal–he’d go and see it if I agreed to go see the movie about Whitey Bulger coming out in the fall. Yay! I didn’t let on that I wanted to see it anyhow. 😉
I was beyond excited to go, I’d watched all the previews online and it looked adorable. I wasn’t disappointed. We went to a 3:55PM matinee on a Friday, and when we got there, the Cineplex looked deserted! We ended up being the ONLY people in the theater showing the movie which was pretty cool. I didn’t have to worry about bugging someone with my “awwwwww”s and giggling.
After that movie, I was totally hooked on Minions. I haven’t been this obsessed with cartoon characters since Wallace and Gromit from “The Wrong Trousers”! And I wanted my own Minion…easier said than done.
Bob is my favorite Minion, I love his childlike personality. Unfortunately, half the world loves Bob as well, so his stuff has been hard to find unless you want to pay an inflated price. And of course, the plush version of Bob that I liked the best wasn’t even sold originally in the United States, it was a limited release for the United Kingdom. Ugh. I could have ordered him from Amazon, but at $34.99 I was hesitant to do that, sight unseen, shipped from the UK. Nevermind.
One day while in Kmart, I did come across a few Minion things. Since the movie came out, it seems like there has been a run on Minion merchandise around here, so I was surprised to find anything. I did come across a plush Dave and he was on sale ($16.50), so I decided to get him. Dave is also very cute, and the star of the short “Puppy”. If you haven’t seen it, you HAVE to pull it up on YouTube, it’s beyond cute. I love Dave’s facial expression on this particular version, he looks like he’s just discovered the most wonderful thing in the world. About a week later I went to Target to check and see if they had any of the new OG stuff. They didn’t. 😦 But they had something even better–a plush Bob to go with my plush Dave!!!!!!! He’s just perfect, I would like to make him a teddy bear to go with him that resembles his teddy Tim. And I’m thinking about making him a winter coat like he wears in the movie, the version of him from the UK is wearing that, and I don’t think it would be that difficult to make out of polar fleece. I may try an AG coat on him to see about how it fits and where I could make alterations. Yeah, I’m just a little obsessed.
Dave and Bob
In this same trip I stopped at Toys R Us for something else, and while I was there I thought I would see what they had in the Minion line. Wow, they had a lot! Way more than any of the stores near me (this Toys R Us is about 15 minutes away) and I was able to play with some of the ones that I had considered. I was very happy that I was able to do this because several of the ones that talked and did various things were just okay. Definitely not worth the $30 + prices they were asking. I did see one thing that I wanted though: Bopping Along Bob. He stands about 2 1/2 inches tall. He was only $7.99 and since I’d seen the similar version of Stuart when Evil Twin bought him, I felt safe in purchasing him. After I got him home, I was so glad I did. I wasn’t sure what “bopping along” meant, I thought maybe he hopped like most other wind up toys did. Oh nooooo–he runs just like a Minion!!!! Soooooooooo adorable!!!
Excuse the crazy video, he tends to run around crazy, just like Bob in the movie…
They have since come out with this version of Bob, resist, resist, resist.
I mentioned Wallace and Gromit earlier–I still have all the items from that line that I’ve purchased over the years which includes a plush Gromit and Sean the Sheep. I purchased them both on our first trip to England 18 years ago and I would never part with them. I also have several figures, 4 that were given to me by a UK friend and one I purchased myself. My affection for these characters has not diminished and I suspect that my love of Minions won’t either. If anything, it might get worse!
I’ve been suffering from another obsession though, but this one is a bit more expensive, so it makes it a little easier to resist:
Yes, that’s Amy Farrah Fowler from Big Bang Theory!!! I first saw her on Zulily, and I thought she was sooooo cool. I’m a huge BBT fan, and I think they did a fantastic job of recreating her in doll form.
She is made by Tonner and I’ve been admiring their dolls for a while now, especially in how posable they are. To make matters worse, they also make a Sheldon Cooper doll to go with her, argh!!!!!! However, at $150 each (regular price), I vetoed getting them for now. As much as I love them, I’m not a fan of having dolls that just stand (or sit) around and collect dust. I already have Princess Diana, Rose from Titanic and a few other dolls that get that honor. I guess I could do some fun posts with the two of them. In the meantime I’ll just admire the photos and behave myself! (although the idea of making Raggedy Ann and Raggedy C3PO costumes for them did cross my mind)
Another thing that I’ve had on my “want” list is a Lundby dollhouse. This is one of those things I’ve looked at many times over many years. If you aren’t familiar with them, they are a company from Sweden, and the style of the dollhouse reflects that. Think IKEA in miniature. If I were to eventually buy one, I’d just furnish it a little at a time, the furniture is sold as sets. It frequently shows up on Zulily too, so it’s something I could do each month. At this point I have no place to put it though until I get rid of some other stuff, so this is definitely way on the back burner. I still need to purge the excess of dollhouse furniture from my mom’s collection first and get that house in order.
Do you collect any other lines besides 18″ dolls? Or any other collectables? I have a large collection of teddy bears, way bigger than my doll collection. I did quit adding to it a couple of years ago though, it’s not nearly as much fun as 18″ dolls.
